Susan Fleming Hotard
Painting is my tool for interpreting the life that our
Almighty God has so wonderfully made. Whether it be portraiture, still life, or landscape; I try to record my observations
of the world in a realistic, but painterly way. Painting is a life-long journey
and I’m certainly enjoying the trip.
American
Artist magazine featured a cover story on Susan Hotard’s artwork in an 8-page spread in the July/August 2005 issue;
and she is published in a how to paint still life book by International Artist Publishing. Ms. Hotard, who earned the highest
honor while attending the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, has taught at Delgado Community College; and at the Jewish Community
Center. She’s taught several 5-day and 3-day workshops for New Orleans area art guilds. Ms. Hotard has judged several
New Orleans area art guild competitions including New Orleans Art Association, La Petit Art Guild, and Jefferson Art Guild;
and painted demonstrations for West Bank Art Guild, St. Charles Art Guild, La Petit Art Guild, New Orleans Art Association,
Metairie Art Guild, Louisiana Artists Association among others. In November 2006, Ms. Hotard was asked to talk on “Design
and Composition” at the New Orleans Museum of Art for New Orleans Art Association.
While attending the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, Susan
studied with Auseklis Ozols, Carol Pebbles, and M. Dell Weller. She has made several trips to New York to study portraiture
with Everett Raymond Kinstler at the Art Students league, and Daniel Greene at his studio in North Salem.
